Tesla Unveils New Roadster as Elon Musk Claims It Could Fly Using Air-Jet Technology

Texas, USA — Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has unveiled a new version of the company’s Roadster sports car at an event in Texas, claiming that the vehicle could perform extraordinary manoeuvres, including briefly lifting off the ground with the help of air-jet technology.
The two-seater electric sports car is claimed to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour (approximately 97 km/h) in less than one second. According to Musk, the vehicle is also designed to tackle extremely challenging terrain and demonstrate unusual aerial manoeuvres using a specialised propulsion system.
Air-Jet Technology at the Centre of the Demonstration During the presentation, the Roadster was demonstrated without a driver inside. Musk explained that leaving the vehicle unoccupied was a safety precaution intended to prevent injuries in the event of an accident during testing.
In a subsequent demonstration, the Roadster was reportedly shown lifting into the air and moving over other Tesla vehicles with the assistance of its air-jet system.
The vehicle reportedly features ten nozzles connected to high-pressure air tanks. Musk described the technology as a system capable of helping the car hover briefly or achieve greater acceleration.
However, it remains unclear how effectively the system would operate under real-world driving conditions, particularly when controlled by a driver. The claimed aerial capabilities have yet to be independently established.
Musk Acknowledges the Risks Musk acknowledged that the demonstration might not succeed as intended. He said there was no guarantee of success and that the vehicle might fail to demonstrate all its claimed capabilities. He added that the team would remain at a safe distance during testing.
The remarks highlight the experimental nature of the technology and the challenges involved in developing a vehicle that combines conventional road performance with jet-assisted movement.
A Combination of Automotive and Rocket Technology Musk described the Roadster as the product of collaboration between what he called the world’s best car manufacturer and the world’s best rocket company, referring to Tesla and SpaceX.
The concept reflects his broader interest in bringing aerospace-inspired engineering into the automotive industry. If the technology proves practical, it could represent an unusual development in high-performance electric vehicles.
What Does This Mean for Drivers? Despite the excitement surrounding the announcement, important questions remain about the car’s safety, practical applications, operating costs and regulatory approval. A vehicle capable of lifting off the ground would face challenges that ordinary cars do not, including passenger protection, stability, airspace regulations and the risk of collisions with nearby vehicles or pedestrians.
For now, the Roadster’s reported flying ability should be treated as an experimental claim rather than an established everyday feature. Independent testing and further technical details will be needed to determine whether the technology can deliver the performance described by Musk.
Conclusion: Tesla’s latest Roadster announcement has drawn attention to the possibility of combining electric-car engineering with aerospace technology. Whether its air-jet system can become a safe and practical feature for ordinary drivers remains to be seen.
