KARACHI: Sindh Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has inaugurated advanced digital data systems for the Sindh Health Department, aimed at improving public healthcare services, enhancing transparency and promoting evidence-based decision-making.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by World Bank Practice Manager Dr. Shirin Warkey, Sindh Health Secretary Tahir Hussain Sangi, PPHI Chief Operating Officer Javed Jagirani, Madam Majida, a retired justice, and other relevant officials.
According to the Health Department, the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system will digitally maintain patients’ medical histories and records of outpatient department (OPD) visits, medicines, emergency services, and maternal and child healthcare.
The system has initially been launched at 18 Basic Health Units (BHUs). The department aims to expand its coverage to 150 centres by February 2027 and implement it across all Basic Health Units in the province by the first quarter of 2028.
Other digital initiatives include a Human Resource Management System (HRMS) to streamline employee administration, GIS-based mapping of Lady Health Workers to monitor their deployment and performance, and the 1000 Days Programme portal. Developed with support from the World Bank, the portal will help monitor the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 340 health facilities.
The department said these digital initiatives are expected to improve employee management, immunisation services, maternal and child healthcare, and the monitoring of development projects across the province.
The initiative marks a step towards modernising Sindh’s healthcare administration through digital record-keeping, improved monitoring and data-driven planning.
