KARACHI, October 15, 2026: The Sindh government, in collaboration with the United Nations, will host United Nations Day celebrations in Karachi on October 24, with the main event scheduled to take place at the Youth Development Centre South.
The arrangements were discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs Manwar Ali Mahesar, attended by a United Nations Pakistan delegation and senior officials from relevant departments and law enforcement agencies.
The meeting was attended by UN official Golden Molilo, Director Sports Asad Ishaq, Director Youth Habibullah, and senior representatives of the Rangers, police, traffic police, local government, colleges and other concerned institutions.
Speaking at the meeting, Mahesar said it was an honour for the Sindh government to host the global observance of United Nations Day. He confirmed that the central ceremony would be held at the Youth Development Centre South in Karachi and that the event would be open to the public.
According to the UN delegation, United Nations Day had previously been celebrated in Lahore and Islamabad, attracting large numbers of participants. The decision has now been taken to organise the event at the provincial level, with Karachi selected as the venue in Sindh this year.
The programme will feature sports activities, informational and recreational stalls, food stalls and a music show, alongside various other activities, organisers said. More than 15,000 people, including international delegates, are expected to attend the event.
The Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Culture Department, local government authorities, police, Rangers, Rescue 1122 and other relevant institutions will work together to ensure the arrangements are completed, according to an official briefing.
Senior political leaders from Sindh and other prominent personalities are also expected to attend the ceremony.
The event aims to highlight the role of the United Nations and promote the messages of international cooperation, peace and development, while providing young people and the public with opportunities to participate in constructive and engaging activities.
